“Louis Vuitton is pleased to announce the renewal of Nicolas Ghesquière’s contract as artistic director of women’s collections,” said the house in an official release on Tuesday morning.

The announcement comes almost exactly a decade after Vuitton first appointed Ghesquière to be its women’s creative director in November 2013. Since then, he has gone on to win acclaim for his pathbreaking style, which blends elements of active sportswear, futurism, high glamor and couture.

Vuitton did not provide any details of the length of the extension to Ghesquière’s contract. But it is a remarkably long reign in contemporary fashion where many creative directors last barely three years, or even seasons.

"It is a true honour to continue writing the story of Louis Vuitton. We began the first chapter ten years ago, defining a new identity based on extraordinary heritage and a constant focus on innovation. In particular, I have had the privilege to harness the talent and expertise of the Maison and its teams to develop new codes. I am forever grateful for the trust and support of Bernard Arnault and Pietro Beccari on this incredible journey," said the52-Year-old Ghesquière in the release.

During his decade as artistic director of the Maison's women's collections, Nicolas Ghesquière has never ceased to surprise with his exceptional creativity and visionary spirit, establishing himself as a key artisan himself of Louis Vuitton's unprecedented growth, the house added.

His most recent show was staged to great acclaim inside a giant building on the Champs Elysées which is expected to house a Vuitton superstore and the house’s first hotel.

"I am immensely proud to collaborate with Nicolas Ghesquière who is a true creative genius. His redefinition of the Women’s Universe at Louis Vuitton, including a sharp new ready-to-wear silhouette, iconic models of leather goods and shoes, and numerous astounding destination shows, has contributed in no uncertain terms to the Maison’s success over the past decade. I am very much looking forward to continuing to pave the future of Louis Vuitton together." Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s chairman and CEO.

Vuitton’s menswear will continue to be designed by Pharrell Williams, who debuted his first collection this past June on Pont Neuf.
