Fashion and homewares value retailer Matalan has appointed former M&S digital expert Jeremy Pee to its Board as a Non-Executive Director.

Jeremy Pee

Pee joins with 20 years of retail experience and “a proven track record of driving businesses’ digital strategy to unlock omnichannel opportunities and profitable, sustainable growth”.

Most recently, he was Chief Digital and Technology Officer at M&S where he led its digital transformation over five years. Previously, he held roles at Loblaw Digital, where he established the online division of Canada’s largest retailer, and Staples, where he managed the P&L of the retailer’s largest category.

Karl-Heinz Holland, Chair of Matalan, said: “He brings deep retail experience and unparalleled expertise in digital and technological transformation. I know both will prove hugely valuable as we refine and deliver Matalan’s omnichannel strategy to serve families better. We look forward to working with Jeremy as we continue to transform the business.”

Pee added: “Matalan is a stalwart of British retailing [and] I look forward to working with the Board and the Executive Team to unlock the full potential of digital and omnichannel retailing to build a stronger, more modern Matalan.”

He joins as work is under way “to build a stronger more modern Matalan”. Last month, the business reported Q2 revenues to August that showed a modest gain (+0.8% to £288.6 million), while operating profit for the period was nicely ahead, (+8.7% to £25.1 million).
