Margaret Howell’s long-serving managing director is preparing for retirement with Richard Craig starting the transition by taking on a part-time role before he leaves the business fully in February.

The MD, who’s also a non-executive director at Henry Poole & Co, will retire after 33 years with the business.

And his replacement? Caroline Attwood joins the company this month having worked at a number of prominent British luxury labels.

She was head of sales at Mulberry for eight years until 2008, and after that was commercial director at Anya Hindmarch until 2015. She then became CEO of Ally Capellino and her new employer has described her as the “clear choice” to step into Craig’s shoes.

Creative direction continues to be in the hands of label founder Margaret Howell who’s led her brand — which epitomised quiet luxury decades before the term was ever coined — for more than 50 years.

The brand has stores in its domestic market as well as in Europe, South Korea and Japan.
